Who: Leo and Donnie
What: Aftermath of the Day of Plants
When: Immediately after the rescue
Warnings: idk yet
Okay, so... Leo may have gotten a little freaked once he realized what had happened to Donnie. And while he'd done everything he could to help get his brother free, he may have also gotten a little freaked out having to even be close to those man-eating plant pods.
It's just that the whole thing hit a very particular sore spot, one that still stung like poking a bruise.
And now, after they've trudged all the way back from the middle of the jungle, after they've let anyone who wants to fuss over Donnie get their fill, after separating from those fussing more over Day, after they've all moved back to the hallways to go to their own rooms for the night, Leo finds himself hesitating before he can turn the right direction to go to his room. He wrings his hands together, before turning to look at Donnie.
"Uh... Do you think... well, maybe we should..."
He feels kind of weird saying this. If it was Mikey, he'd have no problem, but he and Donnie didn't usually talk about this sort of thing. It was just one of those things that happened on its own. Usually because they were both too sleepy to relocate.
That is, what he's about to ask about.
"I was just thinking... maaaybe... sleepover in your room tonight?"
There, he did it. And now Donnie can make fun of him if he wants to.

But the other part of it was because he just felt so stupid, putting himself and Day in such a dangerous position, and risking everyone else's safety to come after them. He fully expects to get some kind of scolding from Leo, the tension building as he braces for it once they've parted from the rest of the group and headed back down a more familiar hall.
Scoldings don't start with such hesitation. It's strange enough that Donnie finally looks over at his brother. The question, once Leo does get it out, relieves a lot of that pressure because truthfully? Donnie doesn't really want to be alone. He hasn't really liked being alone ever since being on this ship, not when nothing feels right, and his sparsely filled room seemed all the more empty for it.
"If...you want," he says, just as hesitantly, as though worried if he accepts too eagerly that Leo might retract the suggestion.

And Raph isn't here. So there's no one to do any scolding.
He's also a bit concerned about the gunk that's still on Donnie. Is it still eating him? Yuck...
He's a little surprised when Donnie doesn't make fun of him for the suggestion, but then, maybe Donnie doesn't want to be alone, either. Leo doesn't know why he thought any of them might grow out of that as they get older. Maybe they'll never want to be apart, really.
Something about that is comforting.
The rest of this situation isn't, though, so Leo tries to help out by smiling.
"Cool. Let's go, then!"
And he'll turn towards Donnie's room instead of his own.

He smiles back as best he can, nodding.
"First thing I'm going to do is wash all this stuff off," he says, wincing as he swipes some off of his cheek.

He sounds more than a little grossed out when he asks. This whole situation gives him the heebie jeebies.

"I'm certain it's acidic, and can only guess that we were lucky that its digestion process appears to be a slow one." The thought only makes him grimace. Leo's hardly the only one grossed out. "...which...would have made things very unpleasant if we were never found..."
...oh that is a horrifying thought, actually. Donnie had been trying to avoid thinking on it too much as it was, but it's been difficult ignoring the stinging sensation on top of the general sliminess. He hunches up his shoulders as he tightly folds his arms against himself, trying not to be sick.
no subject
Yep, that's definitely a terrible thought. One Leo really does not enjoy considering. They better hurry and get Donnie cleaned up.
He urges his chair to move faster.
"But we did find you. So it's all gonna be fine!"
He says this as much to reassure himself as reassure Donnie.

As Leo moves faster, Donnie tries to do the same. He just hates the extra tackiness of each step he takes, and how his hoodie clings to him, and how his face and his legs feel both cold and burning simultaneously. But at least his room isn't too far now. It just seems that way.

Once he gets there, he'll let Donnie go in first (especially if he has to unlock the door). He's not the one who needs a bath - or well, not immediately, anyway.
(Hopefully there aren't ticks in the ship's jungle, but who knows...)

Once inside, he's quick to peel out of his hoodie, making a beeline for the bathroom. Illex trails in after, seeming to huff before looking up at Leo instead.
When's the last time Leo had been in the room? At a glance, not too much has changed since the last mall excursion. Things still bright enough with the ship's daylight patterns that just being sourced through the windows is enough, the jungle below looking so innocently serene.

"Sorry, Illex; he probably wants to handle that himself," he says to the mimic, amused by how grumpy and cat-like he looks.
He pushes himself up out of his chair, then immediately winces at the ripple of pain that goes through him. For once his joints and muscles aren't entirely the cause: there's a patchwork of bruises and scrapes over his arms and legs from where the pinecone grenades got him. It's nothing so serious that he needs to get to the medbay, but it's enough that he'll certainly feel very sore for a few days.
He immediately flops onto the bed again, sighing softly.
"Know if Dee keeps a med kit in here?" he asks Illex.

The mimic starts to push itself forward with its hind legs even before getting the front ones beneath it again, eventually padding properly over towards the end of the bed where a small shelf better classified as a nightstand sits by the wall. It slips in between things, vanishing briefly before pushing out something like a tall toolbox, shoving the thing along closer to the bed.

While Donnie cleans up, he'll work on fixing up any wounds on his legs and arms - and any on Illex, if he got hit, too. He hopes he can get everything covered by bandages before Donnie pays too much attention. It's not something his brother needs to worry about right now.

There's more than enough time for Leo to finish tending to his injuries as Donnie takes his time, but knowing him, he's probably scrubbing down every inch of himself that he can. It doesn't hurt to just let the water run cooler after he's done, to help ease that lingering sting. He'd love to soak in the tub, but knowing Leo's waiting for him, he'd rather not leave his brother sitting alone for long.
Finally he emerges from the bathroom, huddled under a towel after he's mostly dried himself off. He'd left his mask in a wet wad by the sink with a promise to give it another couple of washes, and he'd cleaned off his goggles as best he could, tossing them on the floor with his stuff over by the head of the bed before plopping down to sit beside Leo, promptly leaning against him.
no subject
"Feel better?" he asks, trying to keep his voice light. He doesn't want Donnie to feel like he's in trouble, here, since he isn't. He couldn't have predicted getting eaten by a plant just because he went in the jungle. Leo certainly wouldn't have expected it.
no subject
Safety isn't so much a physical place as it is a space with a particular presence.
"...'m sorry."
no subject
He gives Donnie a little bump with his side.
"I'm not mad at you, dummy."
no subject
And then silence, the words carefully turned over, and beneath the towel, Donnie lifts his head from Leo's shoulder. "You're not?"
It makes him feel lighter, simply hearing that much.
no subject
Gross. Disgusting. He refuses!
The safety of his family is his highest priority, not their discipline. Not that he thinks that applies here, anyway.
"I mean, unless you climbed in that plant for fun. You didn't climb in that plant for fun, did you?"
He looks at Donnie in faux suspicion.
no subject
He drops his towel-covered head against Leo's shoulder again with a sigh.
"I have better ideas for fun. Honestly, I don't remember that part though. One moment, we were in the trees, and in the next, there were these vines trying to grab us..."
Brow furrowing, he slowly brings up a hand to feel at the back of his head. "...think I got knocked out somewhere along the way."
