Supply Run of Danger

WHO: Abric, Aenkae, Zero Two, Loki, Genta.
WHEN: After this post by the Twin Fae
WHAT: A Supply Run.
WARNING: Death? Danger.

The Dangerous Supply run, a write-up to facilitate Fun Times!

  • The Supply Run takes place in the most dangerous, derelict/dilapidated part of the ship, somewhere along the port side of deck two.
  • Spacesuits are REQUIRED. They will give you four hours.
  • The Bangles will be going off non-stop; they cannot be muted. You are in DANGER OF DEATH.
  • If you die you will revive as per normal revival rules in the FAQ.
  • Somehow, you all managed to avoid/defeat some Shadow Wraiths (think these from D&D; the most dangerous thing you have to worry about is the strength drain). If you wish to leave it to chance, roll a d10 to see how well you did. 5 and over is fine. Nat 1 you are feeling weaker for the next few days. Nat 10 you killed a Shadow.
  • The final gauntlet is a 700-metre-long section of hallway that you all think is held together by the magical equivalent of sticky tape and gum. Moving fast is key.

The Void Beasts
  • While I expect most to die getting these supplies given the dangers, I am also very fair, and any mention of dice rolls means you can, but do not have to, leave it up to chance to see how you do. Again, this is not required.
  • There are five Void Beasts; they are amorphous things the size of the average horse and can look like anything. They are also purple-green-yellow in colour and sound like Tasmanian devils crossed with red kangaroos and shoebills. You are welcome.
  • If they touch you in any fashion, they will kill you.
  • They have good hearing, but poor sight and smell.
  • The can be attacked, but they cannot be killed or tamed or driven off for good. Yes, a mimic can take on their form. Yes, the Mimic can still instant kill allies unless you are its Person.
  • HOWEVER, while they are FAST, they must roll higher than 15+ on the dice. You, however, must only roll 10 or higher on the dice to dodge. If you are behind cover, that goes down to 5+.
  • Cover is anything that you can crouch down and stay still behind while facing a Void Beast. There’s some cover, but not enough to sneak all the way to the Hospital. If you want to sneak and leave your fate to the dice, you need to beat a 12.
  • You will probably take around 7 - 15+ rounds to cover the length of the Gauntlet, depending on how fast you are moving.

The Hospital
  • Once you enter the Hospital Foyer, you will find a One-Way, single-use per person, damaged teleportal that will take you back to near-ish the Aquarium.
  • The Hospital itself is in decent shape, and feels liminal in a way that suggests it might have been placed under a magical stasis. You can find anything you would in a state of the art Major Hospital that is otherwise abandoned.
  • Only by taking things out of the Hospital will the stasis be broken.
  • Otherwise, it’s a well-stocked hospital suited to a ship this size, and was made to accommodate the many varied sizes of the crew it must have once held.

are the void beasts or other dangers in the hospital, or is anyone who gets there safe?

Robin Hood, the spirit Genta's summon will take the form of for this, is known for poisoning opponents with poisoned arrows- will poison actually do anything to the void beasts however?

Start, just outside of the Gauntlet

Loki had started the supply run fairly confident that his magic could handle most challenges. And while it certainly made the shadow monsters easy for him to deal with, thanks to his new light control powers and them seeming to prefer attacking someone else before him, he's ready to be more cautious as they approach the zone of true danger. He directs yet another resentful glare at the Bangle that won't stop alerting him that he is in danger; he'd already tried telling it that the sound was putting him in more danger, and it had reacted exactly as much as an inanimate object could be expected to.

There's movement in the corridor ahead, but in the gloom, he can't make out much about the creatures. Still, the fact that they are active gives him a chance to have a little bit of fun with his exploratory illusion, instead of having it act exactly as he intended to.

He turns to the others. "Now, no matter what you see, the real me is not moving from this spot until I tell you otherwise." Then, with an impudent wink at Zero Two, suddenly there's another exact copy of Loki standing next to him, down to the Bangle sounding an alarm. The copy then strides into the corridor at a calm, steady pace, as if it thought the creatures posed no danger to it. The real Loki motions the others for quiet as he watches it advance.

Unfortunately for the decoy, one of the creatures takes notice before it makes it too far. He gets a brief glimpse of it as it closes the distance to the illusion and swipes. He makes the illusion dodge out of the way as he would, and while it feels like a close call, the illusion does not dissolve as his normally do when touched. He lets out a breath.

"Well, I think we have learned something from that," he remarks to the others.

PERCEPTION CHECK...NAT 1

Genta is unfortunately a little distracted by the time they reach the 'gauntlet'. Steady-minded as he is, everyone has their limits when it comes to a chiming bangle...especially when shadows seem to think he's especially tasty. His only saving grace has been that at the best of times, he's actually rather difficult to locate.

Practicing stealth around veritable gods and heroes tends to do that.

He's no mage however, for all that the summoned 'Robin Hood' beside him (though dressed in far more black than any Robin Hood typically would) might indicate otherwise. Thus, he happily gives the floor to Loki as they approach the corridor.

Real one staying here. Got it, he thinks, even if the way it's quickly struck by the creature within causes him to flinch. He doesn't think he got the best look- he was perhaps too focused on the illusion itself, unfortunately. But-

"It saw the fake you really fast," he observes, frowning as the creature shakes itself after the attack. "...Mnnn...but it looks like they forget what they were chasing pretty fast, too..." The void beast seems to be completely ignoring the way the illusion is heading for cover now; it would realize someone's right there if it could remember, he's sure (1).

Crossing his arms, Genta frowns. "...that's still pretty fast though...we definitely can't afford to be seen..."

By all rights the shadow beings should have taken Æn'kae out. He might not have been the only person they'd targeted, but he certainly was one of them. And the only reason they hadn't? He'd dodged and shadow had moved in one way while he'd moved another. And they'd gone after the shadow instead for some reason? He'd work all of that out later, but for now he was just grateful it had at least helped him reach this final stretch with the others, where he watched Loki's illusion

He considered a moment, waiting as Genta replied. "Well, they don't have low level telepathy." Yes that was a real and valid concern, ignore that he'd only ever encountered it once, and in a domesticated animal at that. Personal issues weren't biasing his list order. Never. He was a professional. "And unless you also included body heat with your imaging, they don't sense that either, so more imaging may give us more of a shot for our stretches between cover, if you're able. Or if anyone else can do something similar?" With the incessant alarm from the bangles, speed just seemed like a better option than trying to rely on sneaking out of their sight. As he spoke he kept an eye and ear on the beasts, just in case they had another route to somewhere like behind the group.

Honestly, warnings of danger aside, he would happily spend more time studying these creatures. But between danger to others as well as himself, and a time limit to actually manage their goal. That would have to wait. For now.

Abric hoped the spacesuit would muffle the bangle. It didn't. His next instinct was to wrap his jacket around it, but that was under the suit he needed to live.

He watched as Loki's decoy moved in and the creatures took the bait. They must be just outside their range of...hearing? Scent? This isn't his wheelhouse at all. But he signed up for this, so it was time to try.

"Kind of incredible they haven't found us here with all," he waves his bangle arm, "this." He pats the empty spot on his weapons belt where his smoke bombs were. "Used up all my distractions in the pirate attack, though. Got nothing otherwise. Wasn't done gearing up when they nabbed me."

He still wasn't used to threats that couldn't be solved without smarts and a blaster. Guess it was just the former, then. If he'd gotten something useful, like light manipulation, out of their little apology, then he could try blinding them. Instead he's got...candy sprinkle creation.

Actually...

He tries making a handful of sprinkles as fine as possible. Just barely larger than the granules of sugar they would have been made from.

"Could try tossing this in their eyes if they get close?"
