Arrival #4

For the Crew
Between one blink and the next, the crew find themselves drawn back to the bridge, perhaps for the first time, perhaps not. It is a feeling, a pull, a tug; it doesn't matter how, only that they are there to witness the flash of light, the hint of a portal on the floor (it fades between blinks), the ragged breathing of two fae in their ears, and a word related to the ship stolen from their minds to be replaced with another: 'Noanga'.

Not that the crew has time to question Navi-No about this: they have new faces to deal with.

And... they too have a 'gift', again. It's the same as the new arrivals.

(OOC Note: The word is mod determined and part of the mystery of the Noanga.)
New Arrivals
You remember giggles, a touch of the faerie, the glimpse of a glimpse of figures, and the faint, indescribable words whispered in your ear. Then, between one blink and the next, you stand alongside others who share the same confused or alarmed look as you stare out at the spacious area before you. The area is the intact, gleamingly sleek bridge of a spaceship straight out of science-fiction, complete with holographic viewport taking over one wall, while gathered people mill about, including a giant robotic griffon-dragon some 23' at the shoulder.

Something tells you this is the only truly functional area to be found on the ship. That these people are the only people on the ship.

There is a weight on your dominant wrist: a fancy gold bangle that cannot be removed by any means. While it isn’t a brand, it does feel like a mark of something, and soon enough you notice that each bangle has one large jewel. Each jewel is one of three colours. Heliodor Green, Spinel Purple, and Zircon Blue.

Finally, you see a somewhat friendly looking AI hovering before you. It dips then does a delighted twirl with another dip at the end.

"Greetings, Invited! I am the Ship's Pilot, a Navigational Artificial Vector Interface – Noanga's Operator. Call me Navi-No of the Noanga." The mechanised voice is distinctly that of a generic British Butler and about as chipper. "It looks like you're trying to figure things out. I'd be delighted to provide assistance: I see you're all sporting some rather fetching bangles. Are you perhaps wondering about those?"

No. Not a Space Butler. It's Space Clip-It given a body, and, as you will very soon discover, about as accurate as Chat-GPT is.

And it's your (armed) pilot.

And, you also notice a that you are wearing, over your existing clothes, some strange, glittery, ice-cream themed woolen jumper you don't recall putting on. It's actually really fluffy and perfectly warm!

Oh, and you have some kind of pendant around your neck. The stone is your favourite colour.

Claim quarters
The first order of business is survival. Or at least finding a room for yourself. Luckily, there's plenty to pick from! Big and small, shaped for creatures who once measured from a child-sized three feet to titans towering at forty. Some rooms remain intact, dim but liveable. Others are half-eaten by dereliction: doors jammed, walls bowed inward, ventilation systems coughing dust. To claim room is to gamble: Will you risk wandering deep into the forgotten corridors or skirt the truly derelict zones for something grander, or settle for what’s close and known?
Exploring the Noanga
Once, the Noanga must have been a marvel of engineering and technology. Once. But now it's now it is a semi-derelict thing that travels the stars while some strange life clings and renders it somehow still liveable, though the Bangles will beep warnings when a character strays from the liveable sections.

The ship smells faintly of ozone, rust, and the synthetic tang of recycled air. Everything feels lived-in yet long abandoned.

Yet despite its state, there's lots to do and find, even without being able to get into the engines or control the bridge.
Chose Your Own Horror
Maybe you want to go deeper into the ship!

The deeper you go, the more likely you’ll encounter unstable gravity, radiation leaks, or things that have made themselves at home during the long years. Ignore the Bangle's warnings and wander too far into the dereliction, and they will shriek. The oxygen mix is wrong, the temperature too low, or the gravity plates stutter, leaving pockets of crushing or weightless voids.

Or worse.

Note: Anything found within the danger zones will not follow characters back into the safe areas. It's almost like they can't...

Perfect.... Ice-cream??????
SOMEHOW, the only thing the replicators wish to serve for the next few days is ice-cream themed anything. It tastes just like home - like a parent or guardian got it for you, but that is probably just your imagination and nothing to worry about. Everything's fine.

Ice cream makes things better and it's not weird at all that it tastes like home. Stop poking the replicator. It won't help.

... It's probably best you don't think too hard about this. That you just enjoy it.

Veterans of the Noanga will know that things are Very Likely Not Fine, more so when Navi-No shrugs and answers in ice-themed puns that don't answer anything outside end you on a wild chase across the ship that ends in you finding a Special Rock that you now just have to keep on your person.

Wooly Mayhem!
Wool. Wool. Wooly wooly wool. There's bales of it around the ship, but not all of it wants to stay in the bales. Some has somehow spread all over the place. In your hair, in your food. On the walls. In your rooms. Especially in your rooms.

In the aquarium?!? Though, now it's just a sad soggy mess that needs to be repeatedly fished out. Best to toss that out an airlock or something.

It's like someone unleashed a wool bomb on the ship. Or... maybe there are sheep? There seems to be faint baa'ing now and again and it's coming from... your rooms?

Oh. And there's also hay bales, too. Lots, and lots of hay bales.

((Note: there are no real sheep, at least. Unless you really want a real sheep and all that entails?)

Make your own location.
What it says on the tin! Want a gym? Pools? Indoor rock climbing? Sure! Go for it! The skies the limit.

He snorts a little in amusement. "It's just an expression, man."

But at least the thing he finds here is not some kind of monster, so crisis averted. He takes another look around, admiring the work that has been done to make this place somewhat navigable.

"Did you do all this?"

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-13 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Day nods. "The paths are already there, I'm just uncovering them. Once people start using them, they'll become clearer with time." Just in a non-invasive way, letting nature lead the changes.
faceguy: (cause baby i'm gifted)

"Heh, pretty cool. Maybe this will be a real garden again, someday."

Then they could grow food or something. Leo unfortunately cares about things like access to fresh veggies and fruit now, so it would be a good thing, in his book.

"Need any help?"

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-14 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd rather it gets to be wild. Free." he admits. "But we need a source of fresh food." So he's doing what he did at home too - finding a balance.

"Sure, always. Most of the paths have been laid with stone before, there's just a thin layer of dirt, maybe grass and moss over them now. I've been tying sashes of cloth around any tree with edible fruit and helping Ferlarys to clean the old garden beds of wrong plants." Mostly by relocating them, he couldn't bring himself to get rid of any.
faceguy: (for a first effort this)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-15 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Ferlarys?" Leo asks, wheeling closer to one of the marked trees. He doesn't know exactly how to spot a tree with edible fruit, so he should learn.

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-15 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Looks like a humanoid dragon, usually in company of her hawk?" he quickly describes her. "She's nice. Knows a lot about medical herbs and such." His method for the trees is simple enough - find one that currently is fruiting with something he recognizes, then mark all that look identical.
faceguy: (these are desperate measures)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-15 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, her," he says, nodding. He met her when he first arrived, but his memory for names isn't great anymore. "Yeah, she seemed cool."

He peers up into the tree. "Are the fruit, uh... Earth fruit?"
burstingstars: (Default)

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-16 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Day chuckles. "Yeah, that's about the only ones I can recognize. Though I hope others catch on to the idea and mark what they know."
faceguy: (will only surrender)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-17 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm... now I'm curious what alien fruits taste like."

He'll probably learn soon enough! But for now he focuses in on what's here.

"Guess I'll look for anything I recognize, too."

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-17 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"If there's any I don't know for sure, I'll ask Aen'kae to scan them. At least he can check for toxins." And then they'd just have to try them and see if edible also meant tasty.

Meanwhile he is watching how Leo navigates the paths in his wheelchair, less out of concern and more to get an idea of what adjustments might be needed yet. "Donnie's not much of a nature guy, but is there anything you'd like to have here?"
faceguy: (got nothin to learn)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-17 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
It's a little rocky, and he has to sometimes manually turn his wheels to get past something. His wheels aren't meant for any kind of off-roading, and while the path is pretty flat, it's still a bit difficult for his chair to cross without effort.

"He loves botany," Leo corrects. "He'd probably be down to help you mark off these trees. Just don't expect him to do any camping."

He has to have his phone and his real bed.

"And, uh, I dunno! A zipline might be fun."

This is a joke.

"I'll ask him then." He does like Donnie, they just have to... dance around their respective trauma a bit, to not make it awkward.

Day isn't taking it as a joke, looks up at the trees thoughtful. "I can manage that. Maybe from one of the rooms with a balcony, down to the ground - that'd make for a nice incline." He's done this before, in Republic, to navigate between rooftops. "Would stone paths be easier for you?"
faceguy: (in the back)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-18 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, uh..." Well, now Leo doesn't have the heart to tell him he didn't mean it. Maybe others will find it fun! Or maybe he can even ride it, if he has the right harness... "Okay! Sounds cool."

At the question about the paths, he looks down.

"Yeah... that, or some offroading wheels. But those'll be hard to find."

They'd need special rubber and spokes and different attachments for his chair... It's a whole ordeal.

"But you don't have to worry about me yet. I'm okay on the edges."

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-18 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
A future project at any rate, but it's good for him to have those. To think about a later and work towards it.

"Donnie could probably make you some quite easily? He got this magic where he can turn matter into new things. I don't really ask him for it unless I really can't find it anywhere else, it seems unfair to put that on him, but you're his brother." Day had things he wanted, but since none of them were essential to survival, he didn't think to ask for them. It could wait.

"Still. It's the only real sort of nature we have here. Where you can look up and pretend to be outside, because you can't see the walls. You should be able to navigate that too."
faceguy: (right hand to god)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-18 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
“Yeah, I guess he could.” Leo rubs the back of his neck. “I already have to depend on him a lot, though…”

He’ll think about it. He’ll also have to decide how worth it is to change them out. Muddy wheels are hard to clean, too, and the balance would probably need to be different… Maybe a dedicated outdoor wheelchair would be better…?

Things to ponder! Not to sound like a nerd, but Leo does enjoy having new ideas to try.

“Heh, thanks. But I’ve never really been a nature guy, so it’s not a big deal.”

Leo may help with the plants because it’s something to do, but it’s not his favorite activity.

Day simply nods, won't push either of them. Just put the option out there to consider, like the gas station did for him, until he felt safe enough to make decisions on his own.

"What did bring you here then?" Not that he is complaining about help, but he'll just as happy merely have company. "I've pretty much lived outside for years. Never really got back to being inside all the time." Sure he enjoyed them comfort of a bed, a safe space, but it was just as important for him to be among nature.
faceguy: (got kinda drastic)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-19 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Just exploring," he answers, giving a shrug. "We don't know how long we're going to be living here, after all! It's good to know what all's on the ship."

They never know what might happen, after all. Gathering information is Leo's prerogative.

"And having fresh food would be good, too."

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-19 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. It's been 4 months already..." Day is very much homesick, in a way he'd never been before. After the Trial he could at least still see his family from afar. Wander the streets he'd grown up on. And with the gas station he still could've visited L.A., if some hundred years too early. It has him blink, to keep tears away.

"Working on that. The fruiting trees just needs picking, some other things are growing wild. Ferlarys is tending to the old garden beds and Genta wanted to set up pots along the edge. Just taking time."
faceguy: (hey kids)

[personal profile] faceguy 2026-03-25 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yeah, he gets it. He’s been feeling it more and more as time goes on. At least he has family here…

He’ll let Day’s tears go without calling them out, focusing on the proposed improvements.

“Is the climate always the same in here, or does it get hit by the ship’s weirdness too?”
burstingstars: (Default)

[personal profile] burstingstars 2026-03-26 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, the other plants have survived so far, right?" Thought there's always a chance of them just being weird themselves. "So far the weather got inconvenient at times, but not truly dangerous."
